14x6.5 (Birch/Maple combo snare)
12x6 (6mm snare drum)
Heads used are Evans G1 on reso and G2 on batter
I wanted a loud bass drum with plenty of depth and the 10.5mm thickness gives me just that. The toms are quite loud with plenty of depth and projection (from the vertical grain Birch), just changing the batter heads to G1's offers much brighter toms with more top end, which i tend to prefer for recording (making a more sensitive drum). The 14" snare drum on this kit is a Maple/Birch combo with a 4.5mm Birch core and 1.2mm of Maple to each outer with 1.5mm Birch re-rings (I have also made a 14x6.5 VG Birch snare at 7.5mm, it gives me more projection and top end, which i prefer). I have finished the kit in awhite marine pearl wrap as this is my tour kit and i can replace any damaged wrap if a drum gets marked.
My live sound engineer loves working with the kit, saying that "The kit is very well balanced and needs little work) he often uses just a bass drum mic and 2 overheads on medium/large venues.
Live video of the kit to follow soon.
