Our latest snare drum projects due for completion this week
White Macassar snare drum shell
This is a very rare White Macassar which i was able to pick up from our Marquetry experts in Italy. We have cut some up and bookmatched it to a vertical grain and here are the results.
This shell is a 14x7 (9mm thick) vertical grain Birch shell. The outer White Macassar has been through our glossing process and is now ready for the fittings.
Santos Rosewood snare drum shell
The Santos is my favourite out of the Rosewoods, its exciting to look at with a lovely grain. I have cut the Rosewood up and bookmatched it for this vertical grain look.
The Snare drum shell itself is part of my recording range which has a vertical grain Birch core and African Mahogany outer plys. The idea is that the hard Birch vibrates the softer Mahogany and produces a lower, more woody sound to the snare drum.
I will be updating on these two shells in the week with pictures and demonstration videos of the finished drums.
