Through the week I have had the opportunity to test out the full Coady drop clutch combo by Billdidit Canada. I was happy to endorse this product as the drop clutch was activated just by hitting the disc on the clutch with your drum stick while moving your foot onto the double bass drum pedal (as demonstrated in my initial video last week). I have had time to get to grips with the full Coady Combo which includes the Drop Clutch, a Wash Controler and a Trip Arm.
My playing does not involve too much double bass drumming, I tend to use it alot for fills etc so moving on and off the hi hat quickly for this required a presponsive unit and with the Coady I have exactly that and even better is the fact thgat the system can be totally hands free to activate (thanks to the Trip Arm).
The Coady Combo set up on my Hi Hat.
My first reactions when i saw that strange looking arm coming off the hi hat stand were probably the same as yours... do i really need that? will it get in the way? and will it really work??
The Trip Arm can be moved in and out of use so when im on a song which will involve alot of double bass drum then i can simply move it into place which is under the clutch disc so as soon as i take my foot off the hi hat the Trip Arm breaks contact on the clutch and drops my hi hat in time for my next stroke when i change to the double bass drum. So do i really need it??? I am really geting into playing with the trip bar activated, I can use my hi hats as normal, opening and closing, playing quick splashes on them without the top hi hat dropping until i take my foot fully off the padel. It really is a great idea that works well in practice and does not get in the way at all either when in position or on standby. I have gone into this in more detail on my video demo which can be viewed by the link below...
After the first day of using the Coady my thoughts were what a great product, After a weeks playing, Im thinking double bass drummers have clearly been missing out but now the coady is here it will make your playing alot easier. If you would like anymore info on anything that i have demonstrated in this video, please do not hesitate in contacing me or the team at Billdidit in Canada... www.billdidit.ca
